Friends Groups
Durham’s parks are stronger when the community is involved. Park Friends Groups bring together neighbors, volunteers, and park supporters who care about a specific park, trail, or green space and want to help it thrive.
A Park Friends Group is a community-led group that works alongside Durham Parks and Recreation and the Durham Parks Foundation to care for, improve, and advocate for a public park. These groups help build local pride, encourage stewardship, and create more welcoming spaces for everyone who uses Durham’s parks.
Friends Groups may support their park by organizing volunteer cleanups, beautification projects, community events, fundraising efforts, educational activities, or advocacy around park needs and improvements. Each group looks a little different because each park and neighborhood is unique.
