Durham’s parks, trails, and recreation programs don’t happen by accident. They are the result of thoughtful planning, public investment, and a community that speaks up for what it values. The Durham Parks Foundation works alongside residents, partners, and decision-makers to ensure parks remain a priority in building a safer, healthier, and more connected Bull City.

Why Advocacy Matters
Parks are essential infrastructure. They support physical and mental health, create spaces for connection, protect natural resources, and strengthen neighborhoods. Advocacy helps ensure that public funding, policies, and plans reflect the needs of our growing community and that every resident has access to high-quality, welcoming spaces.

Our Role
The Foundation serves as a bridge between the community and the park system. We:
• Support long-term planning efforts and investment in park infrastructure
• Partner with Durham Parks and Recreation to champion equitable access to programs and spaces
• Help the public understand how decisions are made and where their voice can make a difference
